Volunteers at a Cancer Research UK shop in Berkshire, England got a rather pleasant surprise when New Zealand born Hollywood actor Russell Crowe walked into the shop and donated One Thousand Pounds cash to the charity.
Mr Crowe made the donation at the charity shop in Sunningdale. He was in the area filming for an upcoming film in which he will play Robin Hood.
A Cancer Research UK spokeswoman said: "He went to a bank, took out £1,000 and handed it straight to the volunteers.
"He said he decided to donate after seeing the poster in the window, which features the new Bad Day campaign, in which cancer patients talk about their experiences."
Mark Burdett of NCi Charity, the UK Charity Insurance Broker, had this to say, “From films such as LA Confidential, Gladiator and Romper Stomper, Russell Crowe has perhaps unfairly been perceived as a tough guy who is difficult to work with. I think this act of kindness shows that Russell, like most of us, is touched when he sees others suffering and his donation will, I’m sure, have been gratefully received in what is a very difficult time for many charities and voluntary organisations.”
